Building Together
Project ACCESS is an Enterprise Ireland–funded, Irish Manufacturing Research initiative focused on transforming high-mix, low-volume production welding. Our mission is to redefine how robotic welding serves manufacturing. By collaborating with industry leaders, we tackle the sector’s most pressing challenges. Through adaptive vision and control technologies, ACCESS moves robotics beyond rigid, repetitive tasks—empowering manufacturers with intelligent, autonomous systems that deliver real-world results and revolutionise industrial efficiency.
Funding and Delivery
Funded by Enterprise Ireland, a government organization responsible for the development and growth of Irish enterprises, the Access Project benefits from substantial support aimed at fostering innovation within the manufacturing sector. Irish Manufacturing Research, known for its expertise in delivering advanced manufacturing solutions, is responsible for the execution and delivery of this project. Their collaboration ensures that the latest technological advancements are utilized to achieve the project’s goals.
Machine Vision and Artificial Intelligence
At the core of project ACCESS is the implementation of leading edge Machine Vision and Artificial Intelligence technologies, which enable the system to perceive, interpret and make decisions on how to process variant and new workpieces which are common place in high-mix low-volume production. Trained on your product sets and in-house welding practices to standardise outcomes, and automating program generation, significantly reduces deployment times and overheads, and eases capacity constraints driven by dependency on a high skilled work force. This intelligent approach increases cost-effectiveness of robots in HMLV production in turn reducing ROI periods and making robotic welding accessible, where it was previously unviable.
